International Student Work Opportunity

International Student Work Opportunity

Thank you for your interest in work opportunities! A limited number of positions each term are available for F1 international students enrolled in the MBA and Master of Science programs. Please read over the information below before following the application link at the bottom of the page.

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply for a position for a given term, a student must:

  1. Be an F1 international student.
  2. Be actively enrolled and in good standing during that term.
  3. Be a fully admitted student in the Graduate School of Management.

Please note that students are not eligible to work during their vacation trimester when they are not enrolled in any classes. Also, a student enrolled only in an internship is not eligible for this opportunity.

F1 students can work on campus only within their program's start date and end date as indicated on their I-20. Students cannot work once they have graduated.

What type of work and compensation can be expected?

Awarded hours and pay rates vary by department. Typically, a student works between 15 and 20 hours (maximum) a week, though some positions will entail less. Available hours are based on the type of position, the nature and extent of work determined by the departmental supervisor, and budgetary restrictions.

Please see the list of specific positions at the bottom of the page for information on the type of work in the various departments. On the application form you can indicate which position you are interested in.

Compensation for the international student work opportunity is equivalent to a part-time job, in the form of a biweekly paycheck paid by the hour. There is no tuition reimbursement for students. Hourly pay rates vary according to the position, from $8 to $9.25 per hour.

Who will receive positions?

Positions are awarded solely based on departmental availability and need. Applying for a position is not a guarantee of receiving one, since there is a limited number of opportunities available each trimester. A student who is awarded a position is selected by the department based on its needs and belief that the student has the skills for the job and the ability to carry it out.

What is the application process?

Students seeking a work opportunity should familiarize themselves with the positions available and then submit a completed application online, along with a current resume (instructions are on the form) form at the bottom of the page. Applications for the Fall 2012 trimester should be submitted by August 3rd. Applicants are reviewed on a first come, first served basis, and those who turn in applications by the deadline will be given precedence of consideration over any applications that come in late.

How are students selected?

As soon as the deadline for applications is met, applications are given to the different departments indicated by the applicant. A committee will review applications that do not indicate a department of preference, and will distribute them as seen fit. Supervisors in each department will review applications and will contact applicants that they have an interest in and schedule interviews.
