Shannon Valenzuela, B.A. English & Classics, 2000
Shannon (S.K.) Valenzuela graduated in 2000 with a B.A. in English and Classics. She married Frank Valenzuela (‘00, Politics) and then went on to study medieval literature at the University of Notre Dame. She received her PhD in 2007 and has recently returned to UD as an Adjunct Professor of English.
In 2011, she and her sister Jennifer Bralick (‘03, History) co-founded SisterMuses, an independent micropress and boutique author services firm. She has published a trilogy of science fiction novels under the SisterMuses imprint, and her newest novel, a dystopian thriller called Final Origin , will be released in May 2016 .
Most recently, her science fiction screenplay Render was a winner in the Industry Insider Screenwriting Competition. She will travel to Hollywood in May 2016 to meet with producers, agents, and industry executives about her work.
Her passion for the power of story to illuminate what it means to be human by entertaining, not just teaching, the soul is grounded in her studies at UD, and she brings this passion both to the classroom and to her creative work.
Alongside her writing and teaching, she is a busy football/soccer/baseball/dance mom to her six children, ages 3-15.
