German, Concentration

The German concentration consists of any four courses beyond the "German core" intensive courses.

We offer an academically challenging and energetic course of studies in German language, literature and culture. Those who learn German gain access to an important intellectual, economic and culturally historic area of Central Europe.

 

Requirements

Prerequisites: 12 credits (Counts in the Core Curriculum): 

  • MGE 1301 First-year German I AND MGE 1302 First-year German II, OR MGE 1602 First- Year German I and II
  • MGE 2311 Second-year German I AND MGE 2312 Second-year German II, OR MGE 2602 Second-Year German I and II

Required courses: 12 credits of MGE 3000-level or above 
Electives: 3 credits
MGE 3000-level or above (3 credits) OR EDU 5354 Language Acquisition/Linguistics OR MCT 3330 Historical Linguistics OR PHI 4335 Philosophy of Language OR PSY 334 Psychology of Language and Expression 

Two lower-level language courses in a language other than German can be substituted for the 3 credits of elective.
