The policy on accepting courses from another post-secondary institution for credit at the University of Dallas:

• The content of the course must be comparable to what is taught in the UD Politics Department (a syllabus would be a good indicator of course content at another institution);
• The chairman of the Politics Department will decide, on a case-by-case basis, (a) whether the course will be counted as a Politics course; or (b) whether it will be counted as an advanced (3000-level) course.

Major Requirements

Students who major in Politics are required to take 36 credits (12 courses):

• Principles of American Politics (POL 1311)
• Political Regimes (POL 3312)
• Plato's Republic (POL 3331)
• Aristotle's Politics (POL 3332)
• Enlightenment (POL 3334)
• American Political Thought (POL 3356)
• Senior Seminar (POL 4351)
• One of the following courses in Global Politics:
  • American Foreign Policy (POL 3325)
  • Comparative Government (POL 3336)
  • Marxism and Russia (POL 3338)
  • International Politics (POL 3339)
  • Globalization (POL 3340)
    
    
• One of the following courses in American Institutions and Policy:
  • Constitutional Law (POL 3323)
  • Public Policy (POL 3324)
  • The Presidency (POL 3326)
  • Civil Liberties (POL 3327)
  • Congress (POL 3328)
  • Politics and Parties (POL 3329)
  • Public Law and Administration (POL 3330)
  • Twentieth Century American Politics and Policy (3362)
• Three additional advanced Politics electives (3000-level or above)

All Politics majors, including transfer students, are required to take POL 1311. Majors must also pass a Comprehensive Examination. In preparation for the Senior Seminar (POL 4351), majors should have completed eight Politics courses by the end of their junior year, if possible. Students considering a major in Politics should consult with the chair or a Politics professor as soon as possible concerning their program of studies.
