Econ Research DayIn April 2024, we held our first showcase of student research. Five students (Matthew Ong, Kimberly Burch, Luke Posegate, Hernan Hernandez, Natalie Nguyen) presented their work from their International Economics, Development Economics, Comparative Systems, History of Economic Thought, and Advanced Econometrics courses. We enjoyed an afternoon of discussion, feedback, food, and fellowship. We are grateful to all students and faculty who participated and hope to hold this event again next year!
Undergraduate Research DayThe Dean's office holds a university-wide event for student research every year. This April we had 3 Economics majors who presented their work from Advanced Econometrics. We are thankful to Hernan Hernandez, Matthew Ong, and Samantha Ketter for representing us well!
Adam Smith Essay ContestIn honor of Smith's 300th birthday the department launched our inaugural Smith Essay Contest. The theme was Smith and the Virtues of the Core. Students from all majors were invited to submit essays on any aspect of Smith's theory and works and the core for cash prizes. Dr. Ramos, Dr. Charlie Sullivan (History), Dr. Kass, and Dr. Soriano served as judges.

Economics ClubThe Economics Club was recognized as an official student group by Student Government in Spring 2024. We are grateful to Luke Posegate, Matthew Ong, Kimberly Burch, and Luke Gonzalez for leading the way to get this done. The Club and department co-sponsored events, including a workshop for students on make professional presentations for Economics conferences. End of Classes PartyFor the first time in 12 years, the department held a party for students in December 2023. It was a great way to take a pause and celebrate the work the students have done and have food and social time with students and faculty before the start of Finals.
