Participants can receive 4 CPE credits. Lunch is provided.

The University of Dallas Education Department is pleased to announce its third “Excellence in Education Conference" to be held on the campus of the University of Dallas this coming March 7, 2020.

The main aim of the conference is to bring scholars, researchers, educators, pre-service teachers, professionals and other groups interested in teacher education to discuss, present, and/or access topics in the educational sciences. The Excellence in Education Conference provides an opportunity for academicians and professionals from various areas of education to share their theoretical knowledge, research findings, and educational practices with colleagues and the larger academic community – all within the context of a broad conference theme.

Sample Breakout Topics: 

  • Join us to discuss critical issues in education and hear from engaging speakers on current and relevant topics, including:

    • Understanding Dyslexia and Learning Differences (Shelton School presenter)
    • Strategies for Working with Newcomer ELLs
    • Classical and Multicultural Children’s Literature
    • Digital Tools for Literacy Development
    • Shakespeare

Schedule:

  • 8:30-9:30       Registration check-in & breakfast items (coffee, pastries), & Poster Sessions (UD                             student presentations)

  • 9:30-10:20     Concurrent Breakout Sessions (notable scholars/professional presenters in the area)

  • 10:30-11:20   Concurrent Breakout Sessions (notable scholars/professional presenters in the area)

  • 11:30-12:20   Concurrent Breakout Sessions (notable scholars/professional presenters in the area)

  • 12:30-2:30     Lunch and keynote speaker, Clodecott awards (lunch included with ticket price)

 

Principals - If your school is planning to pay for a group of teachers/administrators to attend the conference, please contact Tonya Cooper at (972) 721-5389 or tcooper@udallas.edu.  We are happy to invoice your school or district to help your registration.  All we need is the name, title, email, and school of those registering for the conference.

Where to Park:

Conference will begin at the Gorman Lecture Center is Building #6 on the campus map.  Parking is best in lots J, K, L, N. If parking is not available in those lots, please use B or P near the dorms and our main entrance.  

Signs will be located around campus to direct to the Gorman Lecture Center for the conference.

Past Conferences 

2019 - Keynote speaker and fifth-generation Texan Sherry Garland is an award-winning author of over 30 books for children, teens and adults, including The Lotus Seed (Harcourt-Brace, 1993) and the “Voices of History” series (Pelican Publishing).

2018 - Keynote Speaker Donalyn Miller is an award-winning Texas teacher and the author of several books on engaging children with reading, including The Book Whisperer (Jossey-Bass, 2009) and Reading in the Wild (Jossey-Bass, 2013).

2017 - Keynote Speaker John Seidlitz is an independent educational consultant and the founder of Seidlitz Education, as well as the author of several publications, including 7 Steps to Developing a Language-Rich Interactive
Classroom®, that prepare teachers for today’s diverse and challenging classrooms.
