Classroom Space
The Aula Minore (capacity 60) is located on the lower level of the dormitory. A larger classroom, the Aula Magna (capacity 125), is located on the main floor of the campus center. Finished with a tall cathedral ceiling, the Aula Magna is used as the campus's principal lecture hall, as a reception area and as a media center. It is equipped with smart-room technology, a state-of-the-art sound system, slide and over-head projector facilities, and a piano. Mass is celebrated in the Aula Magna on Sundays and religious holidays.
The Dining Hall and Outdoor Terrace
The Dining Hall or "Mensa" can accommodate up to 120 people. On the south side of the dining hall residents enjoy an outdoor terrace, outfitted with umbrellas that provide shade from the hot Roman sun during the day and with spot lighting for evening dining. This is also an enjoyable location for reading, relaxing and socializing.
The Rome Campus offers students a meal plan of high quality food cooked by a professional Italian staff. During a regular semester program, students are offered a light Italian breakfast, as well as a 3-course lunch and a 3 course dinner, Mondays through Saturdays. On Sunday, brunch and a regular 3-course dinner are served. Special dietary needs are accommodated to the greatest extent possible. Due to the high mineral content the water tends to taste different on campus.
Dormitory Suites
Dormitory suites are made up of two triple rooms with a shared bathroom between them. Each triple room has one single bed and one bunk bed, desks and study space, and a stand-alone closet. The dormitory is protected by a security system that allows only campus residents to enter. Each dormitory room is furnished with a telephone with voice mail by which students can be reached directly.
Laundry Facilities
Located on the lower level of the dormitory, the laundry room is equipped with standard US washers and dryers. UD Rome provides a free professional linen service so that students are furnished with fresh sheets and pillowcases at regular intervals. Rome students must provide their own towels.
Library
Located on the lower level of the dormitory, the library is designed for quiet study and research. A closed-reserve library, housing approximately 3,000 volumes, is open to the university public during specific hours each week.
Student Lounge
The place for social activity is the Student Lounge, located on the lower level of the campus center. Here students can relax in a comfortable environment, borrow books and travel guides, play chess or ping pong, and read international newspapers. A campus announcement board, wireless Internet service, and a free international phone service make the Lounge a principal communication center.
Tech Room
The Rome campus does not have a computer center, it has a Local Area Network (LAN) that provides wireless capability in many areas of the campus - a convenience for those students who bring their laptop computers to Rome. A Tech Room, located on the lower level of the campus center, is equipped with two wireless printers, three Internet kiosks and a Vonage phone. Students may use the kiosks to check their email and briefly browse the Internet. Please note these computers are not available for writing papers. Printing services for academic purposes are provided at no extra cost to students.
The Villa
An attractive manor house built in early 1940s, the Villa now houses the Chapel of the Transfiguration and is the primary residence for Rome Campus faculty and staff. Faculty and administrative offices are also found here. The Villa Salone, a large living and reception room, is used for special gatherings.
The Villa Chapel
UD Rome's Chapel of the Transfiguration recalls the revelation of the glory of Jesus as recorded in Matthew 17:1-8 and parallel New Testament accounts. Designed by UD Professor Lyle Novinski, the Chapel provides a quiet and intimate setting for private prayer, for the sacrament of Reconciliation and for Daily Mass.
Athletic Facilities
A small exercise room is located in the lower level of the dormitory and is equipped with a stationary bike, elliptical trainer, weights, a total gym and a step machine. In addition to this facility, the campus has outdoor tennis and basketball courts, a bocce court, a soccer field, a volleyball area and picturesque running path. Sports equipment of all kinds is provided for student use.
The Belvedere Terrace and Pergola
The Belvedere is a small furnished patio on the top floor of the Dormitory. Designed for quiet study, small gatherings and time alone, it affords a wonderful panorama on both the Due Santi campus as well as the city of Rome, the Vatican and the Tyrrhenian Sea in the distance. Just below the Belvedere is the Pergola-a small pavilion and sitting area, covered in wisteria and decorated with cobblestones. It is located between the dormitory and the vineyard and was a gift to the campus in memory of Jake Addison by his UD-Rome class.
Forno and Outdoor Eating Areas
UD Rome's outdoor pizza oven and grill - called the "forno" - is a main gathering place for students, faculty and staff. The adjoining outdoor patio is ideal for dining, receptions and special events, or just for quiet reading.
Swimming Pool and Patio
An outdoor swimming pool is open from May through September. A refuge on Rome's hot summer days, the pool area is surrounded by jasmine, rose bushes, Roman pines and oaks.
Vineyard and Gardens
About five acres of campus property are under cultivation. The Due Santi vineyard produces both merlot (85%) and cabernet sauvignon (15%) wines, both carrying the "D.O.C." label of quality from Italian wine authorities. The campus is also enhanced by a wide variety of fruit trees. Among them are over 60 olive trees yielding about 150 liters of extra virgin olive oil each year, as well as a generous sprinkling of citrus fruit, pear, apricot, plum, fig and persimmon trees. Other trees on campus include large umbrella pines, cypresses, massive oaks, magnolias, and palms. Flowers of all kinds flourish from spring to fall.
