Michael A. Haggar Fellow 2018 - Jose Espericueta

Among a high number of extremely talented young faculty members, this year’s Haggar Fellow stands out on account of the inexhaustible energy and enthusiasm displayed in every task: teaching, advising, scholarship, community building, and public lectures. This Haggar Fellow is a wonderful teacher who is respected for his intelligence, knowledge, and high expectations, and they appreciate his patience, humility and compassion. His respect for the dignity of every student is evident in all that he does. His scholarly work exemplifies UD’s mission to recover and renew the Western intellectual tradition, bridging the traditionalism of Thomistic virtue ethics and the innovations of post-colonial studies. As Director of the Latin American Studies concentration, he and his colleagues have refreshed our curriculum and broadened our perspective. As the organizer of our Cesar Chavez Day celebration, as a member of our Academic Success Committee, as organizer of our panel discussion on white supremacy, our colleague has become a distinct and important voice on campus to lead us as a Catholic Liberal Arts university to engage the complex issues of our times. The Haggar Fellow goes to Jose Espericueta.
