Who We Are: The Foundation of the Gupta College of Business

At the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business, our story is built on a strong foundation of purpose, generosity, and leadership. We invite you to explore what drives us—starting with the inspiring legacy of our namesakes, the mission that shapes our academic and ethical vision, and the dedicated professionals who serve on our leadership team and advisory board.

In 1979, when Satish Gupta was looking for a business school, he was looking for an education that would span oceans and continents — a school willing to teach on an international level. The University of Dallas was that school. Since its founding, UD has been committed to preparing students to become competent and responsible managers who are principled and moral leaders. The expert faculty, diverse student population and curricula designed for the ever-changing business landscape have prepared students for careers in the United States and around the world.

For Satish, the University of Dallas, nestled in the center of the Dallas/Fort-Worth metropolitan area, became home. And a year later, Yasmin (not yet a Gupta at the time) joined Satish at the university.

“UD was one of the first schools in the U.S. to understand the importance of international business and trade,” recalled Yasmin Gupta. “The program was vibrant with international students. It was like walking into our very own global village, right here in Irving.”

Satish and Yasmin didn’t wait long to put their business education to work. While still students at the university, they began the business plan to a company that would later become SB International. More than 30 years later, SB International is a leading manufacturer, processor and distributor of steel pipe and tubing products for the oil and gas industry in the United States and Canada.

In 2014, a generous gift from the Guptas made possible the state-of-the-art SB Hall, home to the college of business for which they are the namesakes. Today, the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business has over 17,000 alumni and currently enrolls nearly 1,000 graduate and undergraduate students.

“Our dream is for this college to be a global meeting ground for diversity, where students from all parts of the world can learn from each other and live in harmony,” said Yasmin Gupta at the dedication ceremony for SB Hall. “We hope this beautiful new environment fosters the same loving global village that we experienced as students all those years ago.”
